How the Devil Accuses Us Before God—and Why Quick Repentance Matters

How the Devil Accuses Us Before God—and Why Quick Repentance Matters

In a previous article, I asked the question:
“How do you know when the devil has accused you before God?”

The answer is simple — and sobering:
👉 The moment you sin, an accusation has already been brought against you.

The enemy of our souls does not waste time. Scripture reveals that he is constantly at work as the “accuser of the brethren,” seeking to bring charges against us before God (Revelation 12:10).

Let’s explore this truth by looking at the example of Moses.

When Was Moses Accused?

In John 5:45, Jesus said:

“Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.”

This is a fascinating statement. It reminds us that even the most faithful servants of God, like Moses, are not exempt from the enemy’s accusations.

When Could the Devil Have Accused Moses?

Most likely, the devil would have seized several moments in Moses’ life — especially when Moses killed the Egyptian in Exodus 2:11-12.

But what is perhaps even more telling is the episode when Moses struck the rock, rather than obeying God’s command to speak to it (Numbers 20:10-13).

I believe that the very moment Moses disobeyed, the enemy brought an accusation before God. This reasoning is consistent with the picture painted in Revelation 12:10-11, which tells us that Satan accuses believers day and night.

The stern response of God to Moses — not allowing him to enter the Promised Land — may well have been the result of this accusation and its corresponding judgment.

How Quickly Does the Accusation Happen?

The Bible does not specify how much time passed between Moses’ disobedience and God’s declaration that he would not enter the land. But spiritually speaking, the accusation and its consequences appear immediate.

This serves as a clear warning to us:
👉 Do not delay in repenting and confessing your sins before God.
👉 The moment you sin, the enemy is already at work seeking to bring judgment.

What Can We Learn?

  1. Satan actively seeks to accuse us — not just over “big” sins, but even subtle acts of disobedience.
  2. Time is of the essence — delay in repentance gives the accuser room to operate.
  3. The blood of Jesus is our defense — according to Revelation 12:11, believers overcome the accuser “by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”

Final Thought

Moses was a mighty servant of God, yet even he faced spiritual accusation with real-world consequences.

Let us learn from his example:
👉 Keep short accounts with God.
👉 Walk in humility and obedience.
👉 Confess and repent quickly when you stumble.

Because the moment you sin — the enemy is already accusing.
But praise God, because of Jesus Christ, we have an advocate with the Father (1 John 2:1)!
